In this post, I am going to cover more on SEO link building and run through several ways to maximize your backlinks. In my previous post about RSS Backlink Traffic, I mentioned using RSS to build 2nd tier backlinks. Some people might be confused the purpose of 2nd tier backlinks and why you need them. I totally understand where you come from because this is not a popular backlinking technique and not many people talk about this yet.
Can Google Find Your Backlinks?
I believe most of you are aware that you should use anchored text to link back to your website. So, you have built a few dozens backlinks with your keyword as the anchored text using article marketing, press release, social bookmark, forum profile, blog comments, etc…Now what? Does your backlinking stop here? Do you just sit back and hope your keyword will get ranked on the front page of Google?
Before I go further, we should understand that if the backlinks are not indexed by the Google, they are just dead links. All the effort you spend to submit articles, social bookmark, forum profile, etc…are drained if your backlinks are not indexed. Generally, article directories such as Ezine Articles, Article Base, etc…are being crawled by Google every now and then and hence it is not an issue in terms of getting indexed.
However, if you use a submitter to do mass submission, you might notice some of the article directories are not as popular as the top article directories such as Ezine Articles and this is where you should come in to make sure your backlinks are indexed.
Getting Your Backlinks Indexed
There are several ways to get your backlinks indexed, the easiest way is to have 2nd tier backlinks pointing to your backlink URL. This means that if you have an article at Article Site1 with the URL –> www.ArticleSite1.com/YourArticle1.html, you should build some backlinks to point to your article URL.
1. Using RSS
One of my favorite is to use RSS links as 2nd tier backlinks to point back to my article sites. Almost all the article directories has the RSS function to allow people to subscribe to their favorite topics or author. So, you can take advantage of this feature by grabbing your own RSS and submit it to RSS aggregator sites. You will get backlinks from the RSS aggregator sites you submitted to.
Refer to the illustration below to see how I get my RSS feed from Ezine Articles. After you get your RSS feed URL, you can submit to RSS Aggregator sites. You can do the same to your other article directories that you submitted to. You only need to do this once because the RSS feed will update itself and you will get links from RSS aggregators site to each of your article automatically.

If you have created forum profiles for backlinking purpose, it is essential to build 2nd tier backlinks to point to that profile links to ensure your backlinks will be found and indexed by Google because generally profile links take ages to get indexed by Google (if they do get indexed).
2. Social Bookmarking
You can also social bookmark your articles, profile links, press release links, etc…using Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, etc…to speed up the indexing process.
Essentially you can build 2nd tier backlinks with Social bookmark and RSS feed to all your 1st tier backlinks.
Boosting Link Juice
On top of the benefit of getting your backlinks indexed, you will also receive massive link juice from these these 2nd tier backlinks and eventually pass down to your money site. This is great for SEO link building.
In short, each of your 1st tier backlinks will be boosted because they receive the link juice passing through from the 2nd tier links. Eventually, your money site will get the most benefit because your 1st tier backlinks are all pointing to your money site.
Prevent Reverse Engineering
Do you know that you can use Yahoo Site Explorer to check backlinks of a site? Basically you can just type in your keyword in the Google, take the 1st site that show up in the Google Search Result Pages (SERPs) to Yahoo Site Explorer and you can discover some of their backlinks. You can then have a rough ideas what type of backlinks they use to rank their website on the 1st page of Google and you might be able to do the same.
If you use some “secret sources” (or black hat software) to build backlinks that you don’t want every dog and cat know about your SEO link building strategies, you can use multi-tier backlinking strategies to hide them (i.e. hide them in 2nd tier or even 3rd tier backlinks…). When people reverse engineer your site, they will only find out your some of your 1st tier backlinks.
Your Voice
So, I’ve just outlined ways to use 2nd tier backlinks to maximize your backlinks for your SEO link building. How do you maximize your backlinks? Do you use other approach? Leave me a comment below to share your experience.

Comments on SEO Link Building – Maximize Your Backlinks
This is actually really good information that I never considered before. Submitting my rss feeds to the aggregators is a great way to build links further. Do you have any good RSS directory software submitters you recommend? Something to speed up the process, and doesn’t look spammy. Thanks again for the great content.

@Mark Harbert: Hey Mark, thanks for stopping by. This is a pretty powerful link building techniques that can be implemented systematically
I’m using SEO Link Robot (a powerful all in one account creator and submitter including web2.0, article directories, press release, social bookmark, RSS, meta indexing, link wheel, etc…) and Web Traffic Genius, which is a RSS submitter and creator.
Comparing those 2, SEO link robot is a lot more versatile as it allows mass submission of your RSS feed (just copy and paste your feed URLs). You have the choice to select the RSS sites you would like to submit so that you can rotate those directories.
Apart from that, the best thing is that it will take the feed URL of web2.0 sites, articles sites, etc… you submitted to and submit to social bookmark sites and RSS sites (i.e. it will extract the feed URL of those sites). So, this is done automatically.
Take a look at those and let me know what you think (by the way, SEO Link Robot has a free trial for 5 days).

Ming.
It is definitely important to get those links found. After all what is the purpose of a link if it is never indexed.
I (sometimes- other times I am too lazy) have a system for links. I put all backlinks Im not sure will be found “naturally” in an excel file. Then you go to bulkping.com
Now there are 3 subsections you will use in turn.
1. take all your link (up to 500) and “create” an rss feed
2. Take that RSS Feed and put it into the RSS submitter
3. Put RSS feed and all individual links into the Bulkping pinger.
Easy enough. Takes about 15 minutes 1 time a month and you can get all backlinks that might slip through the cracks and get them indexed.

@Steve@Earn Money Online: Hey Steve, BulkPing is definitely a great source (submitter, feed creator, pinger) for manipulating RSS feed and makes the task a breeze. Doing it once per month is a good and systematic way to make sure all your backlinks are indexed.
Thanks for sharing your system for backlinking. 15min 1 time a month makes your backlinks indexed, definitely worth it

Never heard about bulkping.com but looks like it might make my life a bit easier and that’s great. As far as I understand 500 links is a max for the feed? (though for me it will more than enough))
@Rio@software development companies: Hi Rio, this definitely comes in handy for everyone who is serious about SEO link building

Ming,
I used socialmarker.com to create links directly to my site. Do you think it is a waste of time and should use social bookmarking only for links to articles, profile links, press release links, etc…?
Excellent stuff Ming.
I’m very interested in the multi-tiered approach to backlinking – not so much to hide my strategies as to simply build a greater ‘momentum of link juice’
I’ve not done much so far, but have begun to build links to places such as Ezine articles, using submission software and similar. Another approach I may take sometime is to use Article Marketing in the same way…
Thanks for sharing mate!

Awesome Jym. Glad to see that you have been doing it already
2nd tier backlink is definitely a great way to boost the link juice. The best part is they can be applied to all backlinks.
I like to build 2nd tier links to those who might not be indexed and to boost the obvious link such as web2.0, articles, and press release.
By the way, thanks for liking and spreading the word for my fanpage

Hey Jason,
I don’t think there is anything wrong to social bookmark your main site. You can definitely build links directly with Social bookmark and RSS to your main site. I do that all the time.
The point to have 2nd tier backlinks to your 1st tier links is to pass on the link juice and make them more powerful and to make sure some of your links are indexed.
