In my last post on sales funnel, I talked about why sales funnel is important to your online business and showed the key structure of a optimized sales funnel. So, when you have your sales funnel ready, what’s next?

Testing! Testing! Testing! You need to drive traffic to test the sales funnel!

I am going to show you how to drive instant traffic to your sales funnel and scale it up accordingly. This type of instant traffic do need upfront investment but it is by far the most effective and fastest way to get traffic to your sales funnel. If you are not tight on budget, I would encourage you to try it out and see the power yourself.

Solo Ads Traffic

Solo Ads

Solo Ads is a type of paid traffic that you allow you to buy clicks from the seller. Those sellers generally contain a large number of list that they can guaranteed the number of clicks that you will receive.  You might wonder if it is PPC like Google Adwords? Well, I will say it is a lot more powerful than PPC.

With Adwords, you will need to bid for your targeted keywords and fight against the competitors and you could end up spending a great amount. With Solo Ads, you typically pay for the clicks that you would like the sellers to deliver. The cost per click can be as low as $0.3 (or lower), i.e. 500 clicks for $150. Some sellers are more expensive than others. Besides, you have the opportunity to craft out the email that you would like the seller to send out to his list. This is a great deal because you can pre-sell the list in the email. Do note that not every seller allows you to craft the email. Some might charge extra for this.

Tips Before Buying Solo Ads

Before you commit yourself to buy the solo ads, it is better for you to check the following:

  1. The reputation of the particular solo ads service. Just Google it or do a search in some forum such as Warrior Forum, Digital Point, etc…Usually you will get some reviews by others. You will the decide if you can trust the seller.
  2. If the seller allow you to write you own swipe copy. I always prefer to write my own copy because no one else knows my offer better than me. If there is a sales funnel, I can also hint them in the email list so that they already be warmed to see the OTO.
  3. Always start small, i.e. to buy only 100 or 200 clicks before you commit to buy 1000s of clicks. Though it might be more expensive to buy a small number of clicks, you will only know once you try out the service. If you think it is an excellent service and would like to scale it up, you can buy more clicks or negotiate with the seller to have a monthly service where he can deliver for you every month so that you get cheaper rate.
  4. Contact the sellers before you purchase. Find out if their schedule fit in to yours. Sometimes, you might need to wait a week for your email to get sent out because they are super packed.
  5. Prepare your own tracking link. You should provide a tracking link for the seller though almost all of them will have their own tracking system. Setup Google Analytics in your squeeze page as well. In case the seller does not deliver the clicks, you can dispute based on the proof of your own tracking system and Google Analytics.

I have had a bad experience with a seller as he only delivered 30% of the clicks after I’ve been waiting for 3 weeks. This is just not acceptable to me. His first response was that his tracking system got some problem and promised that he will deliver the clicks. Eventually, I end up to file a Paypal dispute and I had him refunded the outstanding amounts (where the clicks are not delivered).

This is the consequence of not doing my due diligence before I purchased the solo ads service. If I have done a Google search, I will know that I am not the only one who complaint about this. So, my advice is to stay away from those having bad reviews.

    • Ming Jong says:

@Mary McLean: Hi Mary, sorry to put you in the dark. You can Google “7zip” and download a free copy of the software. This is the software you need to extract zip files (with extension of .zip, .rar, etc…). After you download and install 7zip in your computer, right click on the zip file and extract to the directory you want.

Then you can open up excel / pdf. If you are still having difficulty, send me an email via the contact form and I will email you the excel & pdf directly.

  9. Thanks Ming Jong, I hadn’t considered solo ads but it looks worth investing some money into, better than PPC and faster than SEO. I hope I can match your 50% subscriber rate. Would you do me a favour and look at my swipe url (http://womenswaytowealth.com/success-kit) and tell me if you think it will convert well from solo ad traffic?

I’m offering a Home Business Success Kit and then following up with an autoresponder series with various links to products that I use and recommend. A very soft sell, I’m more focussed on building my list and building up the womenswaytowealth community at the moment.

Do you think that’s a waste of ad spend as the sales funnel is very short currently. Thanks for your thoughts.

    • Ming Jong says:

@Cassie | womenswaytowealth: Hey Cassie, your success kit page is not the traditional opt in page. Opt in page basically serves 1 purpose for visitors, opt in to take my freebie or leave it. This is designed only to let people to opt in, not to surf around in order to increase the conversion rate. I’d suggest you to have a dedicated opt in page for solo ads traffic. You can check out my previous post The keys to create a high converting opt in page for tweaking keys parameter of a opt in page.

I think it is worth while to test out your squeeze page because you have your follow up sequence set up already. After all, you need a list to test out if your follow up sequence is good. You can easily setup a thank you page to monetize with some affiliate products. In this case, you will be able to cover some of your investment immediately.

Another thing to watch out for is that your freebie gears towards woman wealth. I am not too sure about the exact context but I would tweak the swipe email to suit both men and women (i.e. the success principal is the same, or give it to your wife or girlfriend, etc…) because most of the solo ads only differentiate their list based on niche (i.e. IM, forex, dog training).

Hope this gives you some ideas about using the solo ads.

Hello Ming Jong, thanks for the advice I’ve been seriously thinking how I could start marketing my rss services more and right now I’m really confused on what method to take. I hear people saying Google ads is great but I find it expensive man I’m so confused. At least your article will give me a few links to check out and look at.

@bbrian017: Hello Brian, great to know your success in RSS services. Now, is just a matter to scale it up :) I reckon one of the greatest advantage you have now is the BlogEngage users base. Since it is such an active site with active users, you already have your prospects. You can tap on the large pool of users and introduce your service.

I mean really market the service (i.e. make it as your sales funnel), not just mention and put a link in the email.

I am sure not all of the users aware of this service, or they might not know the benefit of it. Well, at least I am of them, lol!

Other than that, there are options like PPC with Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other 2nd tier search engine such as 7search, bidvertiser, etc… PPV with mediatraffic, traficvance, directcpv, etc…which can be very effective if you do it the right way. However, it takes time and effort to track and split test…

Solo Ads or Ad swap provide straight forward traffic to your site. Most of the Solo I bought converts at around 50% (i.e. 125 subscribers out of 250 clicks) and this only 24 to at most 48 hours…
